Question 1

Do I need an appointment?

Accepted Answer

Yes, we work by appointment only. Without one, our dentist may be treating a booked patient when you arrive and you could wait a long time. We value your time, so booking ahead is the best way to make sure we can see you.

Question 2

How do I book or get in touch?

Accepted Answer

The quickest way is to call Sally, our 24/7 Smile Concierge, at +592 335 3221, or WhatsApp us at +592 624 7332. You can also email info@smiledesignersdentistry.com or send us the form on this page.

Question 3

What are your opening hours?

Accepted Answer

We work by appointment only. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm; Saturday 9:00 am to 1:00 pm; closed Wednesday and Sunday.

Question 4

Where are you located?

Accepted Answer

Our main office is at 3 Sec. B, W Pb, Springlands, Corriverton, Berbice, Guyana. Dr. Budhai also visits our location in Vryheid's Lust, East Coast Demerara, for specialty treatment, including dental implants and smile makeovers.

Question 5

What services do you offer?

Accepted Answer

A full range of dental care, including dental implants, braces, teeth whitening, dental cleanings, tooth-coloured fillings, extractions, root canal therapy, crowns, veneers and dentures. See Smile Options for details of each treatment.

Question 6

Which examination should I book as a new patient?

Accepted Answer

We recommend a Comprehensive Exam for all new patients. It includes a full-mouth X-ray series and a discussion of our findings and the treatments that may help, so you get a complete picture of your oral health. A Basic Exam is for an emergency visit, a second opinion or your yearly recall.

Question 7

Do you offer payment plans?

Accepted Answer

Yes, we offer structured in-house payment plans. You start with a down payment, then make monthly payments. Smaller treatments can be spread over 2, 4 or 6 payments; braces, aligners, implants and smile makeovers over 12 to 36 payments. Our Treatment Coordinator will go through the options with you after your consultation. We accept cash, debit and credit cards, bank transfer and cheques.

Question 8

I live in Suriname. Can I visit Smile Designers?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We are just across the Corentyne River from Nieuw Nickerie, and we welcome patients from across Guyana and Suriname. Our team can advise on travel and places to stay.

Question 9

Can I fill in the new patient form before my visit?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You can fill in our secure new patient form at home before your visit. If you can't use the form, you can complete it on a tablet at our front desk when you arrive.

Question 10

What if I am running late or need to cancel?

Accepted Answer

If you are up to 15 minutes late, we will still see you if the schedule allows, though the visit may be shorter. If you need to cancel or move your appointment, please give us at least 24 hours' notice.

Question 11

How long does dental implant treatment take?

Accepted Answer

Usually 3 to 5 months in total. At a consultation we examine you and take X-rays to confirm whether an implant is right for you. If you already have a recent CBCT or panoramic X-ray, you're welcome to send it for our dentist to review.

Question 12

How long does braces treatment take?

Accepted Answer

Usually about 12 to 36 months, depending on your case, with an adjustment visit every month. Retainers at the end of treatment are included.

Question 13

How long does it take to get crowns or dentures?

Accepted Answer

Our crowns are made by our dental lab abroad and usually take 4 to 6 weeks. Imported lab-made dentures are usually ready in 3 to 5 weeks, and locally made dentures in 1 to 2 weeks.

Question 14

Is teeth whitening right for everyone?

Accepted Answer

Whitening is only for healthy teeth and gums, so we check first and may recommend a cleaning before you start. If your teeth are sensitive, start using a sensitivity toothpaste at least two weeks beforehand. Teeth can become 6 to 8 shades whiter, depending on your enamel.

Question 15

Why does the new patient form ask for so much information?

Accepted Answer

Your details help us care for you safely and keep in touch: your contact details, so we can confirm appointments and remind you when you're due; your emergency contact, medicines, allergies and medical conditions, because some of these affect dental treatment, including anaesthetic, bleeding and healing; and a few questions about your smile, so we understand what matters to you. Everything is kept confidential in your patient record and used only for your care.
